Poppy’s parents found out that she knows! This took so long and I’m glad the author finally decided to make that happen. I was hoping for a bit more after this because her parents just explained everything to her and then let her go off with Harry while they kept the sister and stayed on the run. I was hoping for more drama because of waiting so long for this to come to an end.

I am glad that the author decided to have Poppy go with Harry and have the life that Poppy wanted to show that she can go away from what kept causing her pain.

Poppy’s parent were both fugitives but for different reasons. Her mother comitted the crime and did some kidnapping and other things that aren’t too revelent for this purpose, but her father pretended to be dead and stay with her mother to look after her and support her. He threw his entire life away for her.

This picture reminded me of how Poppy stood up for herself in the end and chose to get away from her family.

This book overall was great, and I loved it, but I do think that the author could’ve used more drama or added more secrets that built up just to keep it interesting the whole time for dragging it out so much.

I liked how she taught readers…

  1. Never trust those closest to you
  2. Sometimes the things we want to know the most will only cause hurt
  3. The truth can hurt worse than knowing everything is all lies
  4. Those who love you will stay with you till the end
  5. Love is powerful
Poppy when she found out her mother was the one that did everything and her father still stayed with her.

After all that happened…Poppy’s gonna need some help because her mind is everywhere so here is something that might help. https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings/psychiatry

Overall this was a great book but I am very glad to be done because I wasn’t a fan of how long the author started to take to get to the final point; still a very good book though and would definitely would recommend.

Harry has now found out Poppy’s secret. Finally.

He had even gave her a lot more information especially when saying who her parents had killed, and there are multiple deaths, but he is now stuck with choosing his family or her beacuase of this decision.

Life has given everyone in this story a lesson; never trust anyone, even those closest to you.

Poppy’s parents have sort of figured out that Harry knows and it is making this exciting because I want to see how this will go down so I can be done with this. The author is dragging out the parents finding out that the daughter knows but it is still alright, its just not as interesting so hopefully the book dies down signifigantly in the next part of my reading.

I would love to be able to hear the parents thought as they try to figure everything out right now beacause I think they are frantically trying to figure everything out.

How Poppy’s parents are feeling trying to keep it together so their secret doesn’t get blown out of control.

Poppy could probably use some time to herself after all of this is over so this might be a good like to help her get started with the healing process. https://www.wikihow.life/Spend-Time-with-Difficult-Parents-As-an-Adult

Poppy is definitely frazzled as she navigates her fugitave parents true identity so she is probably feeling like this right now.

Hopefully the book dies down and this work out in the end. I can’t wait to find out what happends next!

Poppy has discovered a new name to look into, Carol Gilbert. This was a turn I didn’t expect as a name is a big leap towards solving her parents hidden secret. Poppy showed how determined and strong she was in this section of my reading and it was quite enjoyable.

I am liking how the author is still continuing with different twist as it keeps me on my toes, keeping the book engaging. This author, Marit Weisenberg, happens to have me hooked, which doesn’t happen very often as I am not a huge fan of reading.

Poppy is moving…again.

Poppy wishes this could happen, it would help avoid a lot of drama

Not sure where to yet but this upcoming move is causing a conflict between her lover Harry. He wants her to stay and she can’t share personal information to anyone, causing her to have to draw away. This conflict could change everything because of both of their families. I can’t wait to see how this plays out.

This conflict only seems to get more complicated as Poppy has now met Harry’s parents, politicans. This will hopefully finally get me to the climax because I am very ready for it and I need some more drama to occur.

this better not be me at the end of the book

Hopefully the author knows what she’s doing because this book is getting interesting but I need the climax soon so I don’t start to get bored. Hopefully this isn’t an issue because this has so far been a great book.

This would be a great place Poppy could start looking so she doesn’t make any silly mistakes when moving https://www.allied.com/moving-resources/tips/common-moving-mistakes

There has been some great relationship changes in this section of my reading. Harry and Poppy have bonded much more throughout this section and eventually started dating. I am glad they finally did becasue I have been waiting for that to happen for awhile and it was bugging me that the author kept dragging it out.

Poppy and Harry during their dating because Poppy is trying to keep the secret but still likes him

Family fighting was a key part in this section. As the bonds between family got ripped apart it felt like there wasn’t going to be much left for the author to write about, but she managed to make it work perfectly with it working out that that brought out the fact that Poppy has known the family secret.

Poppy had her eighteenth birthday and I am thinking about how this is going to affect the rest of the story and her actions because she is now a legal adult and doesn’t have to be aligned with her family is she doesn’t want to. This age is important to the story because I have a strong feeling that this will affect how the rest of the story will end.

What Poppy wishes she could do to her secrets because she has now entered adulthood.

Harry’s family doesn’t seem to be in any better situation even with the perfect life displayed for the public as he is a politician. There seems to be a divorce starting and his family is very torn. How will this change what happens to Poppy’s parents if they get discovered? I am curious to see how this plays out as this relation is what is keeping everything together and apart at the same time. This suspence in this part of the book is killing me as I am dying to know how this is all going to play out.

Poppy had recieved the official breakdown of her in class DNA results during class, and she began to explore and search about her family history, and especially her parents. I am still curious to find out what they did that was so bad they are fugitives. I will hopefully discover this in the next part of my reading.

Overall this section has been good and I am enjoying this one the most so far as many different things has happened. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

This book had a huge plot point that was added and it definitely kept things interesting.

Poppy had just discovered her parent’s secret identity; fugitives. This is what I had discovered in my last part of reading, but this is important to restate because she has just made a big mistake that could ruin her family. She said her real name , not her fake one, so now everybody is calling her her real name so her family is at risk.

This leads to the plot twist I was not expecting; Poppy has a new kid in her class, Harry, and has a big crush on him, but he is the politicians son. They started to hang out quite often and he found out about the results of the DNA test as well. I don’t believe he know for sure they are fugitives yet but I hope he figures it out soon so the book can get a bit more interesting.

Harry now knowing about Poppy’s family secret because she isn’t careful enough.

I love the way the author continues to suprise me as she is adding lots of twists and turns. The suprises keep building on eachother perfectly. I was questioning how the book was going to go but this turn has made things finally start to make me want to finish the book so I can find out what happened. I want her parents to figure out that Poppy knows because this will cause chaos, and I love chaos in a book; it keeps things interesting.

This is by far one of the best books I have read so far as it has many things that keep me thinking. I love the mystery becasue it is a good one that isn’t as gorey, which is nice for a change. This is a great book and I would so far definitely recommend. This is a great mystery book and I think the author has made it very well written.

Section 2 – Pages 33-105

This book continues to suprise me with its many twists and turns. I am loving how the mystery keeps devloping and reaching deeper. There is the perfect amount of given information so I can still try to piece everything together myself. Poppy has discovered her parents secret but they aren’t aware that she knows right now so there is lots of suspence.

Poppy had gotten access to a file with her parents information in it and discovered that they are highly wanted fugitives.

Poppy’s parents are highly wanted by the government for whatever crimes they comitted. What did they do?

Learning the family secret so early in the book was not what I was expecting as that was the big mystery. I am hopeful that the book will continue to keep the secretivity and that it will be a challenge to keep their true identity hidden. Mabye there will even be a bigger secret behind everything in the end, but I won’t know untill I get to the end of the book. I am questioning how the author is going to make the rest of the book engaging due to the main point already being given.

As I read and think about how things have happened in the book, I am begining to wonder what crimes Poppy’s parents have committed. They are wanted for a reason and it has to be something serious. Will Poppy’s view on her parents change as she digs deeper into her families past? Whatever her parents did, they are doing a really good job at trying to keep their secret hidden from her.

Weisenberg has, so far, done a good job writing this book and keeping me engaged. I still keep wanting to read ahead as the plot thickens. I am definitely enjoying the book so far and would currently recommend to anyone who like a mystery without all the violence and gore (from what I have read so far). This is currently a great read!

This Golden State – Part 1

Part 1 – Pages 1-33

As I’ve started to read this book, it has left me wanting more. This book is so far perfect for me and I am enjoying it. Its is the perfect mystery that gives you just enough information where you have to figure everything else out for yourself. Poppy, the main character, has accuired her own curiosity of her family and their secrets, which has me hooked.

Poppy’s curiosity sparks

Poppy has a family secret what is yet to be revealed. She has just moved, again. This time to California, which has caused her to rethink why. Poppy keeps having to use aliases and keep secrets of her real identity, which has made her wonder why. This makes her family in a very fragile state with sever consequences within arms reach.

Poppy keeps making new relationships with the people around her as she wants a solid life, but it keeps changing and making her think about why her whole life is like this.

In the Proulouge of the book, Poppy took a DNA test in the school bathroom and then sent it in, I am curious as to when she will get the results as I keep wanting to read to find out.

The isolation that Poppy is enduring in her life is causing her to go against her parents wishes of following “the family rules”. This change in Poppy’s character, I believe, is going to be the big change that will cause the carefully planned family secret to break and leave the family in shambles later.

As Poppy truly has nobody in her life that is consistently a friend so far, and her family is bound to get ripped apart, I am wondering if her isolation is going to motivated her to do things she’d never think of before, which will shift the story and cause a great mystery that will need to be solved.

This book has so far kept me engaged in reading and it is will written, so much so, that I want to read more and reach the point where the family secret is revealed. There hasn’t been many plot points yet but I’m just getting started so I’m excited to see where the book will take me. As there hasn’t been much going on it is difficult to write alot about as my first chunk of reading is on the smaller side, but this book is easy to write and think about so far. I like how Weisenberg is writing because it is keeping the book “alive”, making the book easy to follow along with and want to get the mystery started. This book is very engaging.

Thoughts on This Golden State – starter post

I am going to be reading This Golden State by Marit Weisenberg. I chose this book because I love a good mystery as I can be engaged in trying to figure out the mystery myself. When I saw that book is about decades of planning to keep the secret a secret, I was hooked because I know that there will be drama involved. When mystery’s have taken years to form, I usually like them as they are better thought out and have more substance to them. Poppy is the main character and the cover of the book is showered in them, so I’m looking forward to understand what that represents. I’m slightly apprehensive of how the book is going to be written as I’ve never read a book from this author and am unsure what her style is. To ensure success I am going to stick to my schedule and read ahead when I have time so it is easier to stay caught up when I don’t have as much time to get it done.

The DNA represents how there is supossed to be a DNA test that destroys the family and starts the real mystery.
Poppy is the main characters name and the cover of the book is showered in poppy flowers so I am excited to understand that representation.

Bartolomé de las Casas Indian devastation

Bartolome de las Casas construes the Spaniard and native Indians’ encounters with each other. At this time, de las Casas was part of the Spaniards, but he did not align with their views on the Indians and how to treat them. The natives were so brutally treated by the Spaniards that they would “flee to the mountains to escape these inhuman, ruthless, and ferocious acts” (de las Casas 90). De las Casas believed that this was a wrongdoing on the Spaniard’s part, especially when they made the natives slaves. Bartolome de las Casas interprets the Spaniard and Indian encounters at the time from a different point of view than most that were there. His perspective, which is against the Spaniard’s acts, tells readers that even when cultures collide, not everyone on each side aligns perfectly with it.
